Step 1 of 5

What would you like to do?

Months are planning windows, not fixed dates. Weather matters more than the calendar: wait if the soil is frozen or waterlogged, and check the forecast before planting anything tender. Your plan and ticked jobs are saved in this browser on this device only, if your browser allows it. They won't appear on your other devices, and clearing your browser data removes them. A link to your plan shares your plants, not your ticked jobs.

Questions about this tool

How does the planting calendar work?

Choose your plants, or start from an idea such as a new border, more privacy, spring bulbs or a shady corner. Answer a few questions about your garden and you get a month-by-month calendar of what to buy, sow, plant and look after. There are five short steps.

Where is my plan saved?

Your plan and ticked jobs are saved in your browser on that device only, if your browser allows it. They won’t appear on your other devices, and clearing your browser data removes them. A link to your plan shares your plants, not your ticked jobs.

Can I add the jobs to my phone's calendar?

Yes. Download the calendar events from your plan and open the file to add the reminders to your phone or computer calendar. You can also print your plan.

My garden is cold or exposed. Does the calendar allow for that?

Yes. When it asks where your garden is, choose the option for elsewhere in the UK or a cold, exposed spot, and jobs that wait for the end of frosts move a month later. It is a rough guide, so check your local forecast before planting out tender plants.

Can I plan for pots and window boxes?

Yes. When you describe your garden, open ‘Growing in pots or a window box instead?’ and choose where you are growing.
