Landscaping project – Esher
A full garden transformation in Esher — a porcelain terrace, integrated drainage works, raised planters and a new in-and-out driveway, designed and built in-house by Flourish Landscaping.
Project scope
In Esher, we took on a comprehensive landscaping project to turn an underused part of the garden into a large porcelain patio seating area, while tackling significant drainage problems and reworking the front of the property. It was a true design-and-build job, spanning both the rear and front gardens.
Description of works
Rear garden
- A bespoke seating area with over 40 metres of porcelain paving
- Raised planters built into the wall, allowing layered, year-round planting
- A comprehensive drainage system tackling waterlogging across beds and lawns — over 50 tonnes of clay and spoil excavated and removed
- New planting schemes for the shrub beds, designed for year-round colour and structure
Front garden
- A new in-and-out driveway on an MOT sub-base with a 20mm shingle finish, metal edging and a brick crossover
- A new boundary wall to improve security and define the property’s perimeter
Our approach
Led by Craig Davis BSc (Hons) Horticulture, our approach combined design thinking with practical engineering. We worked closely with the clients to understand how they wanted to use the space, then resolved the underlying problems — chiefly drainage — before building the features that would make the garden a pleasure to use.
Through careful planning and sequencing, the functional elements — the drainage system and retaining walls — were integrated with the aesthetic ones, from the porcelain patio to the raised planters, so nothing felt bolted on. Getting the invisible engineering right first is exactly what makes the visible finish last. As APL- and TrustMark-accredited landscapers, every layer was built to that standard.
