Every piece is designed and built in-house under the direction of Craig Davis BSc (Hons) Horticulture, with attention to how each structure reads against the wider planting, paving and boundaries.
In this guide
Whether you want a peaceful retreat, a stylish entertaining space, or a practical addition to your landscape, our team creates durable features tailored to your needs.
Creating unique outdoor spaces
Our garden features not only add visual interest but also improve the functionality of your garden. We specialise in designing and installing:

Pergolas and arbours
- Create shaded areas for relaxation and outdoor dining.
- Custom-built using high-quality timber, powder-coated steel or composite materials.
- Designed to support climbing plants such as Wisteria sinensis, Clematis spp. and Rosa spp. so the structure ages into the planting.
Water features
- Bring sound, movement and a sense of calm with fountains, ponds and cascades.
- Designed to suit any garden size, from compact courtyards to larger estates.
- Wildlife-supporting where appropriate, with naturalistic edge planting to encourage dragonflies, frogs and visiting birds.
Garden walls and raised beds
- Define spaces while adding structure, texture and height to the garden.
- Particularly useful for level changes on Surrey’s sloping plots, often required across Esher, Cobham and the larger suburban gardens of our patch.
- Built from brick, natural stone, rendered blockwork or timber sleepers to complement your style, with drainage designed in from the outset.
Seating areas and outdoor living spaces
- Integrated benches and bespoke seating areas that create welcoming social spaces.
- Built-in fire pits, outdoor kitchens and BBQ areas to extend usable garden time into the evening and across the seasons.
- Designed for comfort and practicality with durable, weather-resistant materials, sitting naturally alongside paving and decking.
Trellises and decorative screens
- Provide privacy, shelter and support for climbing plants such as Trachelospermum jasminoides and Lonicera spp.
- Decorative panels that divide spaces while keeping an open feel.
- Built in timber, powder-coated metal or composite, often integrated with our wider fencing and screening service where boundaries are involved.

Outdoor lighting
- Strategically placed lighting to extend evening use, highlight key features and improve safety on paths and steps.
- Low-voltage LED schemes designed for soft, layered effect rather than overlit floodlighting.
- Specified as part of our wider garden lighting service, with wiring planned in at the build stage where possible.
Why choose Flourish Landscaping?
Common questions about garden features and structures
Do I need planning permission for a pergola or garden structure?
Most domestic pergolas, arbours and freestanding garden features fall within permitted development rules and do not require planning permission. Restrictions can apply if your property is listed, within a conservation area, or if the structure exceeds height limits. We assess this during the site visit and produce specifications that work within the rules where they apply.
How long does it take to build a pergola or water feature?
It depends on the scale and groundwork involved. A standalone timber pergola typically takes between three and seven days on site. A larger built-in feature, such as a brick-built water feature with electrics and surrounding paving, can take two to four weeks. We provide a written programme with every quotation.
Can you integrate new features into an existing garden?
Yes. Most of our feature work is added to gardens that are already established. We assess existing planting, levels, paving and boundaries during the survey, design the new structure to read naturally against them, and protect surrounding features during construction.
What materials do you use for pergolas and structures?
We work with pressure-treated softwood, western red cedar, oak, powder-coated steel and aluminium, depending on the design language of your garden and your maintenance preferences. Cedar and oak weather attractively without treatment; powder-coated steel offers the cleanest contemporary lines with very low upkeep.
Will electrics and water supply be included?
Yes, where required. Outdoor electrics for lighting, water pumps and outdoor kitchens are installed by qualified electricians working under our project management, with full certification on completion. Water supplies for fountains, ponds and outdoor taps are installed at the same time so cabling and pipework are planned in cleanly rather than retrofitted.
How do you ensure features integrate with the wider garden?
Because we offer the full range of garden services in-house, from design through to planting installation and ongoing maintenance, features are never specified in isolation. The pergola’s position relates to the patio orientation, the climbing plants relate to the structural material, and the lighting plan considers both. Single accountability throughout means decisions are made in the context of the whole garden.
