Plants we’d start with

A starting point, not the final word. A scheme like this usually runs through the whole garden, and every garden has its sunny and shady corners. Where each plant goes depends on things this planner can’t see: your soil (clay, chalk or sand), damp and dry spots, roots from trees and hedges, what is growing there now, the colour of your house and paving, and how you use the space. Some of these plants will want the sunniest spots and some the shadier ones, and a few may not suit your soil at all. We sort that out on site. Send us your scheme or book a visit and we’ll talk it through with you.

Roughly how much planting is there? Add up the planting areas around your garden: their total length and average depth. We’ll size your scheme to it, with a planting list, quantities and a month slider to see what will be in colour through the year.

The Where it goes notes show which plants want the sunnier or shadier parts of your garden. Soil and drainage decide the rest, which is why we check before we plant.
