Hedge Pruning and Addressing Flooding Issues
Objective
The aim of this project was to completely reimagine a rear garden space in Hersham, Weybridge. The homeowner sought to remove an overgrown, overbearing conifer hedge that dominated the garden, making it feel confined and underutilised. In its place, the goal was to create a modern, open space suitable for relaxation, while enhancing the overall aesthetic of the property.

Process highlights
Design approach:
The towering conifer hedge - this had long overshadowed the garden, was removed to open up the space. This instantly transformed the garden, bringing in more natural light and giving a sense of spaciousness.

Installation of bespoke pergola - the custom-made pergola, was constructed from durable treated pine and painted a sleek black, was installed. This contemporary feature serves as the focal point of the garden, providing a stylish, shaded area for outdoor lounging. The black finish of the pergola blends elegantly with the surrounding greenery, adding a modern, understated charm to the space.
Indian sandstone paving - to further enhance the garden's functionality and aesthetic appeal, high-quality Indian sandstone paving was laid. This durable material is both practical and visually striking, offering a smooth, stylish surface perfect for outdoor seating. Its natural tones complement the garden’s new, open layout and provide an elegant contrast to the pergola.
Results
Outcome:
The transformation of this rear garden was truly remarkable. By removing the heavy, oppressive conifer hedge, the space became much brighter and more inviting, instantly changing the overall atmosphere. The new open-plan design now feels expansive and welcoming, perfect for outdoor seating, to simply enjoy a peaceful moment in the fresh air.
The bespoke black pergola adds a sleek, modern feature that ties the design together, while the Indian sandstone paving offers both practicality and a sophisticated look.
This project has turned a previously cramped and overshadowed garden into a beautiful, functional space designed for relaxation.
